RTI identified the need for three distinct functional area:
• office space for administration, accounting, sales, marketing, human relations, and donor services;
• R&D and classroom/conference and cafeteria space; and
• production/warehouse space
Administration Building
The administration building is rectangular and is bisected by the entry atrium/stair/elevator/mechanical core. On either side of the entry are large, open office areas that allow office furniture to be rearranged quickly. The few private offices, conference rooms, and privacy alcoves are surrounded by demountable partitions as well. These full height walls are against the "core walls," maximizing the available open office space.
The third floor contains the executive offices, constructed of traditional fixed walls, the boardroom, and a catering kitchen. Entry to the administration half of the third floor is a skylit rotunda just off the entry atrium and across from the board room. The rotunda can also serve as a private space for formal board activities.
Commons Building
The Commons Building includes human resources, IT, and lunch/multipurpose space in approximately 18,000 sf.
Manufacturing Building
The 64,000-sf Manufacturing Building includes R&D space, and utilizes floor-to-roof glazing at strategic locations to let natural light penetrate deep into the production area. Approximately 20,000 sf of cleanrooms designed to Class 100 to Class 100,000 standards were needed for specific manufacturing of the products. Several cleanrooms house CNC milling machines for the manufacturing of screws and pieces that are only millimeters in size.
