The San Diego Spectrum campus of National University opened to students in September 2000 with a 40,000-sf Main Library and a 63,000-sf Academic Center. The advanced information technology integrated into the library design is intended for both this campus and support of the University's 25 other regional centers. Among the library's resources are more than 16,000 electronic books, 350 e-journals, and 250,000 titles. Almost 300 percent more volumes are stored on site as a result of a compact mobile shelving system.
Thirty wireless stations for laptops and 42 computers are provided throughout the library. This allows both personal laptop computers and university-provided laptop use in the library. Among the other features are two information and integrated teaching and learning areas.
The multimedia room provides the University with statewide transmission capabilities for distribution of electronic book and video. It serves as a hub for coordination of real time and delayed videos, classes, lectures, and meetings.
The Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) provides access to K-12 curriculum and testing material within a classroom environment. It is equipped with a document camera, video projector AMX touch panel instructor's station with a computer, VCR/DVD player, monitor, video camera, printer, and server capable of both network and local access. The room provides seating for 20 children with computer access.

The cost figures reported are supplied by the firms that submitted these
projects for publication, which in most cases are the designers or builders.
Whereas these sources are intimately familiar with their projects, they may
not be fully aware of the owners' finally-realized and recorded costs. In some
cases, costs are truly and completely accounted for, and in others they represent
a near approximation of the final costs. Costs have not been adjusted for
year of construction, nor has any attempt been made to make regional cost
adjustments.
Further, costs are not comparable on any kind of detailed standard costing model.
Hence, it is possible for the cost of one building to include a steam boiler, while
the cost of a comparable building might not include the boiler, if steam is being
supplied from an already existing campus grid. Or, in another case, a building might
include excess boiler capacity to supply steam to another building. Some submittals
include fees or unusual site improvements as part of the construction costs, which
others do not.
