Hoechst Marion Roussel Hoechst Marion Roussel's new $45-million Drug Innovation (DI) facility supports research in the areas of the central nervous system, oncology, and respiratory disease groups, focusing on the accelerated discovery of new drug candidates. Functions performed include analytical and medicinal chemistry, automated chemical synthesis, computational chemistry and molecular modeling, biotechnology, automated screening and robotics, and medicinal chemistry. The 153,100-sf facility which received a Special Mention for Excellence in Laboratory Design in R&D Magazine's 1999 Lab of the Year issue, doubles the research capacity of HMR's Bridgewater, N.J., campus.

Kuwait University/Ministry of Public Works Located on the Kuwait University campus, the 500,000 sf Health Sciences Center accommodates the faculties of allied health and nursing, dentistry and pharmacology and includes offices for faculty, classrooms and laboratories for teaching and biotech research. Also included in the building program is a 500-seat multi-media auditorium, an animal research facility, a computer center, an outpatient dental clinic and an English language center.

University of Iowa The Biological Sciences building provides the University of Iowa departments with flexible research and teaching laboratories to accommodate changing research technologies and science programs. Laboratories are modular for adaptable utility servicing and construction standardization. The planning modules can be combined to produce large, open laboratories or subdivided for small instrument or special-use.

County of San Bernardino Comprising roughly one million sf, the $275.3-million Arrowhead Regional Medical Center features five buildings on a 72-acre site--a six-story patient tower, a diagnostic and treatment center and clinic, a mental healthcare facility, and a central plant. Conceived as a "medical center in a park," the structures are placed within a series of individually landscaped parking courts connected by outdoor pathways and seating areas.
