Johns Hopkins University The existing cancer research program at The Johns Hopkins University was scattered throughout the East Baltimore campus. Most of the research spaces were out of date with limited flexibility and little opportunity for interaction among the scientists, clinical researchers, and faculty. Three important project objectives impacted the building design: the need to foster scientific collaboration and interaction among four primary research programs; provide high-quality, flexible laboratories that can be modified as research programs grow and change; and to create a new image or ?front-door? for the southwest corner of the urban campus.
