Instead of building more large lecture halls, MIT is upgrading existing campus facilities to support new initiatives in technology-enabled education (TEE), from interactive video tutorials to professional degree programs offered in partnership with universities 12 time zones away.

Microsoft Corporation has long been a leader in developing electronic tools for specialized business applications, and the company's Facility Management operation is no exception. Microsoft (MS) employees and outside vendors now conduct practically all facility- and corporate-related business entirely online. Using a wide range of intranet-based Web tools, employees can make service requests, track a project's progress, and even initiate group moves electronically, in some cases with only a single mouse click.

University of Wisconsin-Madison
As part of the Wisconsin Initiative for State Technology and Applied Research (WISTAR), the University of Wisconsin recently opened the Department of Chemistry Graduate Research Tower. The $38.9-million expansion and renovation marks a renewal point in the Department's research and instructional facilities.

The facil-ity includes instructional space for students involved in medical and related clinical programs in addition to research laboratories and support facilities for research.
