The United States Green Building Council Rolls Out New LEED Tools

Successful Strategies for High Performance Green Buildings
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) will unveil its latest product, LEED™ for Existing Buildings, in March at the National Facilities Management & Technology conference in Baltimore, Md. Since the Council unveiled its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design award three years ago it has rapidly become the industry standard for benchmarking newly constructed and remodeled buildings. This spring, after extensive member input and a year-long pilot program, the Council will roll out LEED-EB, a tool for measuring the greenness of ongoing facility operations in existing buildings. The LEED product line for commercial interiors is currently in the pilot stage and LEED for multiple buildings, core and shell, and residential are in the planning stages.

Hope College's New Science Center Nears Completion

Design Reflects a Research-Based Philosophy of Education
The new Peale Science Center at Hope College in Holland, Mich., is nearing completion following a $10-million renovation of an existing 60,000-sf building and construction of a new $26-million facility that adds more than 90,000 sf of new classroom, lab, and research space. The new facility is scheduled to open in September 2003, with renovation of the original building targeted for completion by September 2004.
