More Communication Leads to Less Down Time
Facilities and IT professionals of the World Bank's General Services Department (GSD) and the Information Solutions Group (ISG) created a one-stop, seamless, low-cost, self-serve solution to box moves performed outside of construction projects. A team of staff members in the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Section of GSD delivered higher performance levels and improved customer satisfaction by using technology (and the experts in ISG) to re-engineer the process of communications between service units of two corporate silos and tapping the efficiency of the existing Facilities Help Desk.

University of Florida Technology Initiatives Streamline Procedures

Using Geographic Information Systems to Improve Process
The University of Florida (UF) is leading the academic community in leveraging technology to improve the usability of campus space data and streamline facility management operations. Using a combination of AutoCAD software, mapping tools, and customized Java applications, the UF facilities management team has developed a geographic information system that provides secure access to comprehensive campus space data in a Web-based environment.

Energy Recovery Using Refrigerant Run-Around Loops

Saving Operating Costs and the Environment As Well
Laboratory buildings are extremely heavy energy users. Fume hoods, service hot water, lighting, equipment, and HVAC are just some of the components requiring energy in a lab. The bulk of the energy use is for the conditioning of laboratory supply air. In laboratory buildings, large quantities of outside air must be conditioned and used only once, before exhausting. In such buildings, only offices and public spaces allow for the recirculation of air. The outdoor air change rate in laboratories is driven by the fume hoods, equipment thermal load, and minimum air changes required by code.
