Researchers Find Safety and Lab Productivity Go Hand in Hand
Safety has always been an integral part of DuPont's manufacturing culture during the company's 200-year tenure. Now, following a heightened concern for security in the wake of the September 11th attacks, the company's research arm is following suit with a renewed emphasis on safety guidelines and security precautions for its laboratories.

University of Wisconsin
The Mathews Chemistry Laboratories and the Daniels Chemistry Building, built for the Department of Chemistry in 1963 and 1967 respectively, originally provided the required research space for the University of Wisconsin's Department of Chemistry. However, the aging buildings fell behind current standards for safe and productive laboratories.

Automation of Information Saves Time and Money
The University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) has realized significant cost savings as a result of moving its facility management operations to an automated online system. Using a combination of advanced network and database technologies, MU's Space Planning and Management Department has developed a geographic information system (GIS) that pulls space, mapping, financial, and personnel data together into an interactive tool that saves the University tens of thousands of dollars annually.

University of California, Riverside
The Department of Entomology at UC Riverside is known for its research programs in biological control, integrated pest management, and exotic pests. After the three structures that housed the University's Department of Entomology were deemed seismically unsafe, the University sought a replacement facility that would provide the Department with offices, laboratory support facilities, and new modern lab facilities necessary to sustain instructional and research programs in the fields of Biotechnology/Molecular Entomology, Environmental Toxicology, Behavior and Chemical Ecology, Biological Control, Urban/Medical/Veterinary Entomology, and Agricultural Entomology/Integrated Pest Management.
