University of Nebraska Breaks Ground on College of Pharmacy

The University of Nebraska broke ground on the $35 million College of Pharmacy and Center for Drug Discovery in June of 2013. Located at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, the 85,000-sf teaching and research building will provide classrooms, faculty offices, 15 drug discovery labs, a sterile compounding suite, and a model pharmacy for simulation training. The design team includes The Clark Enersen Partners and RDG Planning & Design.

Southern Illinois University Builds Multidisciplinary Dental Simulation Lab

Southern Illinois University is building the $9.5 million Multidisciplinary Dental Simulation Laboratory in Alton. The 18,000-sf addition will provide 60 simulation units as well as an imaging suite, casting and dispensing areas, and a ceramic reconstruction room for the School of Dental Medicine. Construction began on the project in October of 2012 and occupancy is expected in spring of 2014.

University of North Dakota Plans School of Medicine and Health Sciences

The University of North Dakota is planning to build a $124 million facility for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks, N.D. The project team includes lead designer JLG Architects working in collaboration with Perkins+Will and Steinberg Architects. Construction will begin in early spring of 2014 on the 378,000-sf building with occupancy expected in summer of 2016.

Construction Begins on Sunshine Coast University Hospital

Construction began in September of 2012 on the $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital in Birtinya, Australia. Located on the Kawana Health Campus, the 10-story tertiary teaching hospital is being delivered by Exemplar Health Consortium as a public-private partnership (PPP). The construction subcontractor for the sustainably designed project is Lend Lease. The facility will open with 450 beds in late 2016 and will be fully commissioned with 738 beds in mid-2021.

University of Dundee Builds Centre for Translational and Interdisciplinary Research

The University of Dundee began building the $20 million Centre for Translational and Interdisciplinary Research in Scotland in July of 2012. Part of the College of Life Sciences, the four-story facility will house collaborative drug discovery research with labs, offices, support, and a high-throughput robotic and molecular pharmacology suite. Disciplines represented in the facility will include mathematical biology and biophysics, bioinformatics, and data analysis.
