Boehringer Ingelheim Corp., headquartered in Ridgefield, Conn., has a $52 million expansion underway at its manufacturing plant in Petersburg, south of Richmond. The facility manufactures pharmaceutical compounds and ingredients for prescription drugs.
Eaton Semiconductor Equipment Operations has plans to expand in Beverly with a $22 million, 140,000-sf demonstration and applications lab and training center, along with expansion at its Rockville, Md., manufacturing plant.
Ford Motor Co. is planning a $250 million to $500 million expansion of its Hapeville, Ga., assembly plant including a new parts manufacturing plant.
Summit Technologies plans to start construction in August 2000 on a $3 million, 97,000-sf service center complex in North Austin. Coordinator for the three-building project is Development 2000. Summit Technologies produces ophthalmic laser systems.
Polaroid Corp. has awarded Houston-based Enron Energy Services a contract for all energy management services at its seven major facilities in the US. The 10-year, $200 million contract includes energy commodity requirements and infrastructure improvements, as well as all operation and maintenance at the company's three Masssachusetts manufacturing plants.
AlphaGary Corp., based in Leominster, Mass., has finished construction of a new plastics compounding plant in Meloton Mowbray, Leicester, doubling the company's manufacturing capacity in the UK. A segregated area at the new plant will produce medical device and regulated packaging compounds.
Wyeth Ayerst Laboratories has a new $20 million, 50,000-sf facility for biological production and research in Marietta. The company is also building a manufacturing facility in Puerto Rico. The construction manager for both projects is Barclay White Inc. of Philadelphia.
Johnson Controls broke ground in December 1999 on a new six-building manufacturing campus on 64 acres at the Parque Industrial Colonial in Reynosa. San Antonio-based 3D/International will design and manage construction of the fast-track project, with the first phase--an 180,000-sf facility--scheduled for completion by mid-June 2000.
Construction of phase two will result in three buildings ranging from 150,000 sf to 180,000 sf. Phase three will include one or two more buildings. The anticipated completion for the entire project--encompassing approximately 1 million sf--is 2003.
Canon U.S.A. Inc. opened its new 166,000-sf regional headquarters in November 1999. The facility houses 160 employees for Canon's regional R&D headquarters, as well as its national headquarters for the semiconductor equipment divions, which includes a cleanroom for R&D on new products.
Architect on the project was C.A.S. Architects Inc. based in Mountain View, Calif. The Milpitas, Calif., firm of Devcon Construction Inc. built the facility. Canon is based in Lake Success, NY.
Cree Research Inc. is expanding its LED manufacturing capacity with the construction of a 125,000-sf facility slated for completion in late 2000. The company recently completed a 42,000-sf production and administration addition.
Valero Energy Corporation is expanding its headquarters near downtown to 299,350 sf and adding a three-story parking garage. Completion is anticipated in March 2000.
General Motors has awarded a team comprised of Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz Architects, Ove Arup and Partners (engineering), and Hargreaves Associates (landscape) to remodel their U.S. car and truck design headquarters where GM will consolidate its U.S. design staff. The project will involve demolition, renovation and new construction, resulting in a total of nine million sf.
The Scotts Co., headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, has selected three San Diego companies to provide design, construction management, and general contracting services for a new facility in Temecula. Smith Consulting Architects, Gafcon and Keeton Construction Co. began work in November 2000 on Scotts Co’s $22-million, 410,000-sf office/manufacturing/warehouse facility to produce lawn seed and fertilizer spreaders. The company is a leading supplier of consumer gardening products.
CryoLife Inc. plans to begin construction in January on a new 98,268-sf build-to-suit facility to house its growing manufacturing, warehouse and office functions adjacent to the company's existing headquarters in Kennesaw at Barrett Business Park. Move-in is anticipated in March 2001. CryoLife preserves living human tissue and manufactures heart valves and surgical adhesives.
