The Director of Design & Construction for Campus Development & Administration is a high-level leadership position at OHSU reporting to the VP, Campus Development & Administration. This position is responsible for overall management of comprehensive design and construction programs and services in support of OHSU’s mission, while providing leadership, vision, and continuity to the Design & Construction department. Annual project volume range is $120-150 million per year across 250-300 projects. Activities include responsibility for benchmarking and monitoring program development and management process guidelines and tools to support OHSU renovation and construction projects.The position requires the coordination and facilitation of programming, design, construction, inspection, safety and site project management personnel to support the implementation of OHSU’s standards, building renovations and expansions, and the direction of internal and external design and construction personnel and/or business partners. Development, management and tracking of budgets as related to all areas of responsibility are critical to the success of this position. Ensure projects comply with all relevant licensure, accreditation and code requirements and achieve OHSU’s environmental sustainability goals and objectives. This is a senior leadership position that will operate with day-to-day autonomy but will require a high level of communication and collaboration with the following: VP of Campus Development & Administration, VP of Campus Services, Associate Vice President for of Campus Planning & Real Estate, University and Hospital Space Committees, Executive Vice Provost, Senior VP for Research, Senior VP & Executive Director of OHSU Healthcare, CFO, OHSU’s Executive Leadership Team, the Design & Construction Management Team and a variety of OHSU stakeholders as necessary to support OHSU’s mission areas of Healthcare, Education and Research. This position will represent OHSU and advance its interests with outside entities such as construction and design firms at the senior partner or principal level, as well as with local building officials.


Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or equivalent. An additional seven (7) years of experience in design and construction programs and/or construction project management programs may be considered in lieu of a degree.

A minimum of four (4) years in a leadership role (i.e. team or program management) in design and construction programs and/or construction project management programs including coordination of large, complex and multi-disciplinary project teams. This leadership role should include responsibility for the development and management of a departmental operating budget.

A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in design and construction programs and/or construction project management programs including a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in or providing services for an Academic Medical Center, Hospital, Biomedical Research or other large complex multi-disciplinary organization.

Strong demonstration of collaboration and communication techniques to bring about agreement between divergent points of view.

Understanding of team management techniques, principles and practices.

Demonstrated ability in financial management, including budget and billing strategies to maintain a net-zero (or profitable) operating budget.

Familiar with HIPAA, JCAHO, Oregon Administrative Rules, NIH design guidelines and related statutes, rules, regulations and guidelines. 

Strong working knowledge of practices, methods, common materials and techniques of the construction and remodel of institutional buildings and facilities.

Understanding of principles, processes and methods of construction project management.

Principles and processes of contracting for the design and construction of institutional facilities.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Strong working knowledge of OHSU systems, resources and environment, or ability to quickly and effectively gain such knowledge.
• Working knowledge of eBuilder or other owner-oriented construction portfolio management system. 
• Working knowledge of Oracle Project Accounting and iProcurement.
• LEED practices, methods, common materials and strategies.
