Campus Planning is a unit within Campus Planning and Facilities Management in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The units of CPFM strive to provide excellent customer service to the University of Oregon campus and operate with the highest professional standards, communicating and collaborating with customers to support the stewardship of the campus.

Campus Planning offers services in campus planning, community and transportation planning, historic preservation, real estate management, and space planning.

Position Summary
This Planning Associate provides facilities planning services for the University of Oregon on issues related to the development of the campus. Specifically, the position holds primary staff duties related to the oversight of the Campus Plan and its maintenance, the work of the Campus Planning Committee and its subcommittees, specialty plans and studies, and periodic campus area studies. The position provides leadership, expertise, and advocacy related to the planning, policy, and design elements of the Campus Plan and at least one specialty area of campus planning (i.e., historic preservation, architectural design, or transportation). Related tasks include: formulating reports, policies, and studies; performing liaison and monitoring duties associated with those activities; and acting as a channel of communication for planning and design issues at the university. This position is responsible for interpreting and implementing the policies of the Campus Plan and educating campus leaders, capital project design teams, and others about the design elements and policies of the Plan.

This position also provides primary authorship of documents and manages planning projects and processes undertaken by the Campus Planning Office. Examples include:

• Preparing sub-plans of the Campus Plan describing development and design policies in greater detail.
• Managing site selection processes for proposed capital projects (comprehensive site selection analysis).
• Serving as the Campus Planning representative on capital projects, providing campus planning and site design guidance to those projects by participating in the management of the design process.
• Completing feasibility studies for potential projects.
• Developing periodic diagnostic studies of areas of campus by documenting their physical characteristics and analyzing their health, in particular as it relates to the policies set forth in the Campus Plan.

This position interacts with a wide range of individuals who have a role and/or interest in the development of campus, including but not limited to colleagues in Campus Planning, Facilities Services, and Design and Construction, representatives of departments sponsoring capital projects, design teams, university leadership, faculty, students, and local government staff.

The Planning Associate reports to the Senior Planner. This position works with the Senior Planner to set priorities and performs tasks independently while also working as a member of a team. Work schedule is typical of that of an office. In conjunction with other Campus Planning staff members, this position supervises student employees.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Three years of professional experience in architectural or landscape design, planning, and design issues which involve public processes.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience and/or education that provides an understanding of university planning policy issues and processes as related to campus design.
• Experience and/or education in planning policy issues and processes related to the University of Oregon.
