JOB SUMMARY:

Clemson University's Campbell Graduate Engineering Department is looking for a Mechanical Technician to fulfil the following duties:

  • Serves as Mechanical Technician assisting the Deep Orange team and supporting students in the rapid prototyping of DO vehicles.
  • Works closely with students, guiding them in the manufacture, fabrication, and machining components & systems. (Each year, a new DO vehicle is designed and built from the ground up, resulting in unique challenges and opportunities in fabrication and manufacturing.)

 

JOB DUTIES:

40% - Essential - Manufacturing, Fabrication, and Machining:
Assists and guide students with the manufacturing, fabrication, and machining work related to the Deep Orange projects.

25% - Essential - Diagnosing/Automotive Repairs:
Assists and guide student in diagnosing issues, and performing medium complexity automotive repairs.

20% - Essential - Project Support:
Performs other duties and tasks that may evolve, and adapt to each unique Deep Orange project.

15% - Essential - Prototyping:
Assists and guide students in rapid prototyping based on CAD drawings.

JOB DUTIES:

15% - Essential - Prototyping:
Assists and guide students in rapid prototyping based on CAD drawings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education – High School Diploma or Equivalent and Manufacturing or Automotive Technical School

Work Experience – 3+ Years

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Work Experience – Auto mechanic; Machining (CNC, mill), fabrication (bodywork, metal work), 3D printing, CAD (Siemens NX), GD&T, diagnosing and repairing automotive systems, transporting vehicles on trailers, crane/hoist operation; Fork-lift operation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
