Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources, the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, repair and minor renovation of university buildings, grounds and infrastructure systems. These services provide the University of Oregon community with a safe, efficient, reliable, functional and aesthetically pleasing learning environment in support of the University’s mission and vision.

The purpose of this job/position is to provide journey-level electrical and electrical control systems planning, construction, maintenance, and repair expertise and support in a team setting, to achieve overall Facilities Services goals.
The position will work with a team to plan, design, install, maintain, and repair all facility electrical systems and energy management systems (EMS) across campus. This includes wiring systems and components of construction, remodel, and upgrade projects across campus. The incumbent will participate in project design, specifications and plan review, estimates, material lists, and electrical construction. They will draft wiring diagrams for various electro-mechanical systems; estimate labor and material costs for control projects; monitor projects to ensure warranty work is completed properly; and troubleshoot and provide routine and preventive maintenance for EMS’s.
The ECST is responsible for design, maintenance, and repair of electro-mechanical systems on campus. They will identify problems relating to controls and recommend design solutions for better control, energy conservation, and comfort in existing buildings as well as in remodels and retrofits. The incumbent will troubleshoot all types of lighting controls, access controls, and other technical electrical installations, working from blueprints and control systematics to plan and design logical modifications.
Interactions/contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies.
DECISION MAKING/LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE:
Position works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently. Decisions may be made about the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task. They may also include setting priorities, assessing customer needs and responding to those needs.
Work is reviewed regularly by the Electrical Support and Lighting Supervisor to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance evaluation is conducted annually.
It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO driver's certification eligibility, which includes maintaining an Oregon driver’s license throughout employment in this position.
This position may be required to participate in an on call rotation. Being on call requires the participant to live in an area with cell phone reception or to be within cell phone reception for the entire duration of the on call period. On call also requires the participant to be within a 1 hour drive of the UO campus for the entire duration of the on call period to be able to respond to issues if needed. On call periods are typically 1-4 weeks in duration.
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
• Must be willing and able to successfully complete formal, continuing education classes to improve BAS/EMS competencies and working skillset. These include, but may not be limited to: mechanical, HVAC, electronic controls systems technician (ECST), programming, computer software, Siemens, Alerton, Johnson Controls, etc.
• Must be able to use special calibration tools and test instruments such as recording meters, multi-meters, circuit tracers, megometers, pneumatic pressure gauges, electronic thermometers; pipe cutter, manual and powered pipe-threading machines, cutting torch, reciprocating (i.e. “Sawzall”) and hacksaw.
• Must become certified for confined space entrant and attendant within three (3) months of employment.
• Must remain current with controls systems and electrical technologies, methods, and applications.
Two years of journey-level experience planning, designing, installing, and maintaining building pneumatic electronic, and electrical control and distribution systems and possession of one of the following Oregon Electrician's Licenses appropriate to the work to be performed:
• General Supervising Electrician License
• General Journeyman Electrician License
