PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing HVAC, plumbing, process piping and controls for laboratory renovations and facilities improvements
- Providing technical guidance to contractors, A&Es, scientific personnel and maintenance shops
- Reviewing A/E plans and specifications
- Ensuring compliance with engineering practices and established laws, codes, regulations, and standards, including the NIH Design Requirements Manual
- Performing on-site technical inspections of equipment and systems to ensure design and specification compliance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in engineering or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of experience in mechanical engineering for building design
- Experience in mechanical design of building renovations and campus utilities
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.; Position includes walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and exposure to dust or particulates
- Experience designing using AutoCAD software
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Experience with Revit software
- Experience in laboratory construction and facilities maintenance
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills with all levels of personnel through written and oral presentations
- Ability to work in a team and communicate with management
- Licensed Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training
