The University of Wisconsin-Madison opened the $45.7 million Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery Building in early March of 2019. The two-story, 67,540-sf building includes a meat processing plant, a demonstration area, two lecture halls, a shared research lab, faculty offices, and a retail store. To maintain food safety standards, the facility utilizes biosafety protocols to restrict access to sensitive areas, and a sophisticated HVAC system mitigates airborne pathogens. Construction began on the project in July of 2017.
