Northeastern University will begin construction in 2020 on the 350,000-sf EXP building in Boston. Located adjacent to the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex, the eight-story facility will provide active learning environments, collaborative research labs, a maker space, a high-bay robotics lab, undergraduate chemistry labs, executive offices, a café, and a faculty club. Housing the Institute for Experiential Robotics and the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things, the project will support the development of technologies including drones, humanoid robots, and autonomous vehicles. The interdisciplinary facility was designed by Payette to provide maximum flexibility, enabling research spaces to be easily converted between dry, wet, and computational functions. Completion is expected by 2023.
