The University of Newcastle is planning to build a AUD$95 million facility for the School of Creative Industries and the Hunter Innovation Project in the Honeysuckle district of Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Designed by EJE Architecture, the four-story building will provide a maker space, research labs, flexible and informal learning spaces, seminar and conference rooms, studios, a co-working environment, and a café. Constructed with a cross-laminated timber (CLT) frame, the structure will feature extensive glazing to enable visibility of the artistic and entrepreneurial activities within. Construction could begin on the project by fall of 2019 with completion expected in late 2020. The facility is part of the planned Honeysuckle City Campus Development, a AUD$500 million district comprising six teaching and research buildings and one structure providing student accommodation.
