The University of Connecticut is planning to build the $240 million STEM Research Center 1 in Storrs. Housing the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, the 198,000-sf facility will offer a 204-seat active learning room, specialized research labs, teaching labs, core labs, computational labs, a cleanroom, and faculty and administrative offices. Designed by Payette, the building will be strategically sited in the planned Northwest Science Quad to enable to university to expand its programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Construction will begin in spring of 2020 with occupancy expected in fall of 2022.
