Johns Hopkins University is planning to begin construction in spring of 2022 on a 150,000-sf student center in Baltimore. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) as a social engagement hub for all members of the Hopkins community, The Village will provide an array of flexible spaces that foster connection and collaboration. Strategically sited to allow direct entry on all four levels, the facility will offer inviting areas for interaction and relaxation, a student services hub, a 200-seat performance venue, and a dining hall opening onto an outdoor plaza. The mass timber structure will create a warm and acoustically comfortable environment as light filters in between photovoltaic roof panels. Shepley Bulfinch is the architect of record for the project, with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates as landscape architect and Rockwell Group as interior designer. Completion is expected in fall of 2024.
