LSU Health Shreveport is planning to build the $60 million Center for Medical Education and Wellness. Featuring spacious classrooms that can accommodate up to 250 students, the 187,000-sf facility will enable Louisiana State University to increase its medical school class size to 200 by 2023 to address a statewide shortage of physicians. Designed by Prevot Design, the five-story structure will include technology-rich simulation suites, a state-of-the-art clinical skills center, training labs, small group study rooms, a wellness center, a multipurpose auditorium, and offices for faculty and staff. The top two floors will initially provide shell space that can be built out at a later date. LSU Health held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the project in October of 2019 and construction is expected to begin by fall of 2020.
