Merck is planning to begin construction in late 2021 on the $1.3 billion London Discovery Research Centre in the United Kingdom. Designed by AHMM with AKT II as engineering consultant, the 10-story, 269,100-sf building will provide leading-edge laboratory and office environments to accelerate the discovery of innovative therapeutics. Strategically sited near the Francis Crick Institute, the project includes the redevelopment of an existing site to create a sustainable facility with a biophilic double-skin façade. Accommodating the company’s UK headquarters, the structure will house approximately 800 researchers and administrative personnel. Occupancy is expected in 2025.
