The University of California, Berkeley is planning to begin construction in 2022 on the Gateway, a visionary new home for the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society. Designed by Weiss/Manfredi and Gensler, the $650 million building will strategically collocate open lab and office neighborhoods in a continuous flow to promote cross-fertilization of ideas and insights. The 380,000-sf interdisciplinary structure will feature interconnected work and meeting spaces where over 1,600 faculty, students, researchers, and staff will leverage the power of computing and data science to improve human health, social justice, and environmental sustainability. The highly flexible project will incorporate advanced infrastructure to accommodate changing programmatic requirements. Occupancy is expected in 2025.
