The University of California, Irvine is planning to construct the Falling Leaves Foundation Medical Innovation Building to accelerate the discovery of new modalities for disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Providing leading-edge wet labs, meeting spaces, and instructional venues, the 215,000-sf facility will enhance the recruitment and retention of high-profile faculty and launch promising careers for basic, translational, and clinically trained scientists. Students will learn alongside these teams of investigators on floors dedicated to specific health issues, including cancer, neuroscience, and drug discovery. The highly collaborative structure will be located in the growing Health Sciences district near the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and the Sue & Bill Gross Nursing and Health Sciences Hall. Groundbreaking is slated for May of 2023 with occupancy expected in mid-2025.
