Drexel University and Gattuso Development Partners will break ground in fall of 2022 on a 500,000-sf life sciences research center in Philadelphia. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the 11-story building will provide leading-edge laboratories for the discovery and commercialization of novel therapeutics and medical technologies. Created in collaboration with Vigilant Real Estate Holdings and The Baupost Group, the amenity-rich complex will feature expanded floor-to-floor heights, five service elevators, fully enclosed loading docks, and robust mechanical and electrical infrastructure. Incorporating best practices for pH neutralization and chemical storage, the highly flexible facility will offer generous amounts of vertical shaft space to accommodate tenants' equipment.
Gattuso will lease the site from Drexel, with the university then leasing 60,000 sf in the completed structure to house core R&D functions and selected academic programs. An existing recreational building will be demolished to make room for the project, which will include an inviting new green space. Completion is expected in fall of 2024.
