Merck will begin construction in April of 2023 on the $1.3 billion London Discovery Research Centre in the United Kingdom. Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, the 10-story, 220,000-sf building will accelerate pharmaceutical discovery and innovation with next-generation laboratories, offices, and collaboration spaces. Targeting BREEAM Outstanding certification, the highly sustainable structure will leverage a double-skin façade to reduce solar gain while transmitting daylight to interior spaces.
The London Discovery Research Centre will accommodate the company’s UK headquarters, housing approximately 800 researchers and administrative personnel, as well as offering a community education venue and a publicly accessible auditorium. Merck will occupy 180,000 nsf in the leased facility, which is being developed by Precis Group with Mace as construction manager. Completion is expected in late 2025.
