Labconco Creates New Generation Of Biosafety Cabinets
Labconco’s new Purifier Logic Biosafety Cabinets are a new generation of biosafety cabinets that include an LCD information center located inside the cabinet at eye-level to keep users safe and alerted to current cabinet conditions. Operating parameters are constantly displayed, including the percent of filter capacity remaining. The Purifier Logic Series Cabinets utilize intelligent motor technology to maintain precise, safe airflow as the filters load. The motor is more powerful, yet quieter, cooler and 60% more energy efficient than other cabinets.
Biovet Commissions BSL-4 Vaccine Manufacturing Facility
Biovet completed the commissioning of its BSL-4 animal vaccine manufacturing facility in Malur, Karnataka, in April of 2008. Constructed to meet current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards for vaccines and biologics, the facility will support the production of vaccines for foot and mouth (FMD) disease and TB vaccines for sheep and goats. The total project cost is Rs 190 crore. The facility is the first of its kind in Asia and the second BSL-4 animal vaccine manufacturing lab worldwide.
PEAT Commissions Plasma-Based Waste Remediation System
PEAT International successfully commissioned the PDTR-100, a Plasma Thermal Destruction and Recovery system, in April of 2008. The system is located at the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation near the Jayaben Modi Hospital in Ankleshwar, India. The 60-kilogram-per-hour (130 lb/hr) PDTR-100, developed to primarily treat biomedical waste and other industrial/universal waste streams, is a permanent, fully self-contained water treatment system for hospitals and industrial facilities.

USAMRIID Constructs Fort Detrick Steam Sterilization Plant
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers selected John C. Gremberg Co. of Rockville to construct a $27 million steam sterilization plant at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md. Sited adjacent to the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) facility, the plant will utilize high temperature steam to sterilize liquid biowaste from the USAMRIID laboratories at a capacity of 126,000 gallons per day. Completion is slated for April 2011.
