  • Job responsibilities (manage, teach, research)  I direct and manage the office of SP&M in an effort to provide quality space solutions for the MU campus.  I coordinate and negotiate space assignments and reassignments with Deans, Directors, Vice Chancellors, Administrators, Department Chairs and Faculty.  Assist the Vice Chancellor for Operations and the Provost as needed in resolving space related issues on campus.  Serve on the Campus Space Utilization Committee, consisting of representatives from the Faculty Council, Staff Council, students and other campus stakeholders.  Oversee in-house space utilization studies and space programming efforts to coordinate with campus space management guidelines, developing scope and budget information for future projects.  Our office also provides GIS mapping services, coordinates campus moves, maintains the official campus building and infrastructure database and archives and coordinates the annual campus space utilization inventory survey.
  • Detail on the scope of your responsibilities -- size of facility, campus, population served, annual budget, people under management  The MU SP&M office consists of 3 full-time staff, 4 part-time staff and 3 student assistants.  We are a part of the MU Operations – Campus Facilities group directed by the Vice Chancellor for Operations. MU current overall campus budget is $2.4 billion.  Our Fall 2019 enrollment was 30,046 students.  MU employs over 13,000 full-time faculty, staff and healthcare professionals.  Our main campus consists of 360 buildings comprising 17.4 million square feet of space.  Of that, approximately 120 buildings (7.0 million square feet) are Education & General Buildings (non-auxiliary buildings funded by tuition proceeds and state general revenue allocations).  
  • Current projects or special areas of activity -- What are you working on now?  For the past 4 years, the MU Space Planning & Management office has been primarily focused on devising and implementing the Campus Space Reduction and Strategic Relocation Initiative in order to assist the VC for Operations in efforts to reduce deficient facility square footage in order to reallocate savings to buildings that improve and support student success, outreach and research.
  • Recent past projects of note  In addition to the space reduction activities, MU SP&M has managed or produced space utilization studies, new building programming studies and master planning efforts for the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the School of Journalism, the School of Nursing and the College of Human Environmental Sciences.
