Speaker Profile: Alex O'Briant, AIA
Alex is a Principal at Ennead Architects. His creative approach is driven by the belief that design and institutional culture can merge to create intellectual communities that prioritize learning over teaching and teamwork over individual achievement. Among his current work are multiple projects at the University of Texas at Austin on which he actively explores the movement towards interdisciplinary learning and academic spaces that are shaped by a team-based model of collaborative engagement. Other notable projects include a new high school for Seoul Foreign School, a STEM Teaching Lab for Purdue University and the Natural History Museum of Utah. In addition to his project-related responsibilities, he directs the firm’s research initiative on K-12 and Higher Education. Recent speaking engagements include Tradeline University Facilities, SCUP-51 and 52, SXSW Education Conference, Yale University and The Plan magazine’s Perspective USA conference. He has taught at Rice and Lehigh Universities. Alex received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and sculpture from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Architecture from Rice University.
