Speaker Profile: John Walz, PhD
John Walz was appointed as the 5th President of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in July 2016. Prior to that, he served as Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky (2012-16) and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Virginia Tech (2005-12). He has also served on the chemical engineering faculty at Tulane University and Yale University. Walz earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from Tulane and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon, all in chemical engineering.
MSOE, founded in 1903, is a private institution of approximately 2,800 students offering B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering, computer science, business, nursing and mathematics. Since becoming President, Walz has led the university on the development of a comprehensive five-year strategic plan. Entitled Extraordinary Together, the plan has a strong focus on strengthening the campus climate and experience for students, faculty and staff. A major component of this effort is upgrading and modernizing facilities across campus.
