Speaker Profile: Mary Jo Spector, AIA

Mary Jo Spector, AIA
Director of Research Facilities Design, Construction, and Maintenance

I manage building projects funded by the FSU Office of the VP for Research and the FSU Research Foundation as well as other FSU projects involving research. Projects range from minor renovations (less than $50,000) to new buildings (up to $130,000,000). I am responsible for hiring the consultants, construction managers, and others as the projects require. I am currently managing 18 projects from pre-design through post-construction, including the one featured in this talk: Interdisciplinary Research and Commercialization Building (IRCB).
Prior to FSU, I was a project manager at Flad and Associates in Gainesville and worked on academic, lab, pharmaceutical, and healthcare projects. Some of my clients included UF, FSU, USF, Shands Healthcare, and the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
I am licensed architect with architectural degrees from Penn State and Florida A&M as well as a masters in Urban and Regional Planning from FSU. I have taught graduate classes at FSU in Urban Planning and Site Planning as well as an undergraduate studio at FAMU.
I am also a LEED certified professional.
