Speaker Profile: Cathy Pinskey, AIA
Cathy Pinskey has been capital program director in facilities at George Mason University (Mason) since 2016, responsible for Mason’s Core Campus Project‚ the largest ever capital improvement program in Mason’s history. Projects included within this program include an $120M new high profile academic building located in the heart of Mason’s Fairfax campus and a $50M underground utility replacement project impacting highly visible primary and secondary circulation paths in the campus core.
Prior to her present role, Pinskey was Director of Campus Planning in Facilities since 2007. In this capacity she was responsible for all facilities related planning activities on three of Mason’s Northern Virginia Campuses, 5 regional locations and a site in Songdo, South Korea. Cathy joined George Mason University as Director of Space Management in November of 2004, during her tenure at Mason, space has more than doubled from just over 3M SF to approximately 8.6M useable SF today.
Recent past projects of note are the planning, design and construction of Exploratory Hall which opened in 2013 and includes program space for undergraduate STEM programs and the Institute for Advanced Biomedical Research which opened on the Science and Technology Campus in the Spring of 2015. Other past projects of note include the new 150K addition to the main research library, Potomac Science Center a new research facility located on the bank of the Potomac River in Belmont Bay, VA and a new 165K GSF Health Science Building which opened in the spring of 2018 on Mason’s Fairfax Campus.
Prior to joining George Mason University, Cathy was a Studio Director at Kling (Jacobs) in Philadelphia. The main area of responsibility during her time at Kling was large interior fit-out projects for the pharmaceutical and educational market sectors.
Cathy has a Masters Degree in Architecture from State University of New York at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Science of Instruction from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She is a registered Architect in Virginia and Pennsylvania.
