To stay competitive in a rapidly changing environment, Rhodes College is aggressively repurposing its existing space portfolio to get a modernized, flexible/adaptable work environment, state-of-the-art science capabilities for STEM teaching and research, and connect multiple disciplines and departments. Session leaders profile results from the college’s science program needs assessment, set out space planning metrics for small liberal-arts colleges, and illustrate how these were incorporated into space assessment, repurposing, and reallocation processes. They detail phasing strategies that enable implementation of the initiatives within the existing building footprint while maintaining operations.
