Melissa Thackery has served various roles in the construction management process for over 10 years, including general contractor, subcontractor, and owner’s representative, as well as graduating from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in architecture. She brings a unique perspective to all projects having played these various roles. She quickly climbed the ranks working as a subcontractor building laboratories for GA Tech, Georgia State, and University of Alabama and gained an intimate knowledge of how laboratories are constructed. She also became the subject matter expert at her company for extremely complex laboratory equipment. She then broadened her focus by working as an owner’s representative, learning how laboratories are designed and working with scientists and PI’s to ensure that their specific needs were met. In this role, she immensely enjoys seeing her projects through from start to finish and assisting to coordinate complex laboratory equipment and systems with end users.
Currently serving as Program Manager, Melissa Thackery manages a variety of projects on behalf of Emory University, including Health Sciences Research Building II, to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with Emory’s standards and specific requirements from end users. She enjoys continued success with Emory during the design and construction of complex bioscience and biomedical research labs, including high containment and animal facilities. She is passionate about research, sustainability, and health sciences.
