Shanghai Scienceland, China's first major science museum, has chosen the Los Angeles office of RTKL to design the interiors of the two-building facility. Five galleries, a large format theater, 3D dome theater, as well as an interior courtyard, restaurants, shops, and a multifunction hall will be housed in the main building.

The second building will accommodate a research library, labs, and support functions along with housing for visiting scholars. A bridge link will connect the two buildings.

FlightSafety Boeing Training International has ...

FlightSafety Boeing Training International has chosen New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff to provide architecture, engineering, and construction services for a new $73 million, 32,800-sf flight training center near London's Luton Airport. Ground was broken in late October 1999. The facility will house offices, lecture rooms, and training facilities including a four-bay flight simulator training center. Completion is anticipated in fall 2000.

The Jewish Community Center of New York City has retained ...

The Jewish Community Center of New York City has retained ARAMARK Facility Services to provide an operational review of the mechanical and structural design for the Samuel Priest Rose Building being developed by the Center. The new $60 million, 130,000-gsf 16-level building houses a pool, gymnasium, locker rooms, fitness center, and aerobics studio. The facility also includes an art studio, auditorium, lounge, and office space.

ARAMARK will review capital and long-term operating costs, and address maintenance and serviceability improvements in the new building.

The New England Aquarium has selected TAMS Consultants, Inc. in a joint venture with EHDD Architecture, to design its new 90,000-sf East Wing expansion. Major new permanent exhibits, food courts and gift shops will be accommodated in the new wing, which will more than double the size of the facility. Completion is scheduled for 2004.

Balboa Naval Hospital has hired Ninteman Construction Co. of ...

Balboa Naval Hospital has hired Ninteman Construction Co. of San Diego to build a $2 million, 1.1 million-gallon emergency water storage tank for the hospital. The pre-stresssed concrete tank will be built 30 feet below a nearby softball field.

Several other San Diego-area firms working on the design-build project are DYK (tank construction); Naton Engineering (earth moving); Redondo Electric (utility line installation).
