Wayne Northcutt is a senior campus planner at the University of Colorado Boulder where his 15 years on campus have positively shaped the campus’ current science and research community. He has supported the design and construction of over $500m in 700,000+ sf of research and academic facilities on the Boulder campus since 2009. Research supported by his projects span the fields of remote sensing and autonomous systems; aerospace engineering; organic, synthetic and physical chemistry; biochemistry and biotechnology; environmental, earth and atmospheric sciences; atomic, molecular and optical physics; and the development of spacecraft fabrication, instrumentation design, and space systems integration. Mr. Northcutt is currently involved with campus efforts to develop a 200,000 sf innovation hub to support technology transfer in the areas of biotechnology, aerospace and quantum computing research; as well as new, top secret compartmented information facilities to support work sponsored by the nation’s intelligence communities. After utterly failing as a chemical engineering student, he went on to receive his undergraduate degree in Environmental Design from UC Berkeley and eventually was granted a Masters of Architecture from the University of Michigan. He is a member and past speaker for the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories and a member of the Society for College & University Planning.
