Published 5/29/2001

Detroit-based HarleyEllis broke ground on Detroit Edison's Fermi 2 Nuclear Training Center in April 2001. Located at the Fermi 2 Power Plant in Newport, the $10 million building will provide hands-on large equipment training as well as consolidating existing training facilities. The development encompasses 60,000-sf of conference and training space. The first floor is dedicated to classroom space and nuclear power vocational training with electrical, mechanical, and large-scale simulation labs and classrooms. The second floor houses a 400-person conference area. Both floors are connected to the adjacent Nuclear Operations Center. The facility is scheduled for completion in spring of 2002. The project team, headed by HarleyEllis, includes interior design firm Ford & Earl Associates of Troy, Mich.; Bay Audio Visual of Detroit; Canton, Mich.-based Rudolf-Libbe as construction manager, in association with Dynamic Construction of Toledo, Ohio.
