South Weymouth Naval Air Station Conversion Planned

The South Shore Tri-Town Development Commission has selected Irvine-based Lennar Partners as the master developer for the South Weymouth Naval Air Station base conversion project. Construction could begin in six to nine month on Phase I of the "smart growth" redevelopment, which will integrate "green," sustainable design, public transportation, protection of open space, and preservation of air and water quality. Including 300,000 sf of office and R&D space, the first 342-acre phase will feature up to 12 playing fields and 300 units of senior housing. Plans for the total 1,450-acre base development involve 2.5-million-sf of office & R&D space, 300,000-sf of retail, a 250-room hotel, a 500-seat conference center, a golf course, 32 playing fields, and 700 units of senior housing. The site will be developed over the next ten years.
