Census Bureau Develops Suitland Headquarters

The U.S. General Services Administration has selected Skanska USA Building as the design-builder to complete the design of and construct the new U.S. Census Bureau headquarters at Suitland Federal Center in Suitland, Md. HKS Inc. of Dallas will serve as the design consultant for the project.

 

The facility will consolidate approximately 6,000 Census employees now located at Suitland and five separate locations. It will be constructed in two phases and include 1,400,000 gsf of offices, meeting areas, cafeteria, and support spaces as well as a 3,100-car parking garage. GSA estimates the total cost for the new headquarters to be $288-million. The first $145-million phase will begin in fall 2003. Completion is expected in March 2007.
