EPA Breaks Ground on "Green" Denver Headquarters

Published 5/29/2005

The Environmental Protection Agency broke ground in early June 2005 on its new Region 8 headquarters in Denver, Colo. The $90-million, 292,000-sf facility will house office and commercial space. Designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership and Shears Adkins Architects, the nine-story facility will be one of the "greenest" buildings in Colorado, featuring photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, a roof with native vegetation to manage and clean rain water, and an atrium spanning all floors of the building for maximum utilization of natural light. Opus Northwest  is the developer and general contractor for the project, with Syska Hennessy as MEP engineer and security consultant Hinman Associates. Completion is slated for fall 2006.
