LANL Opens Security Science Facility

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) opened the $970-million National Security Sciences building in May of 2006. Accommodating research on security-based solutions to national security problems, the building houses 680 offices, administrative space, and a 600-seat lecture hall. Additionally, LANL, which had been managed by the University of California for the past 60 years, has awarded a new management contract to Los Alamos National Security LLC (of which the University of California is a part); Bechtel National; BWX Technologies (a subsidiary of McDermott) and Washington Group International. The new contract begins on June 1, 2006.
