Morphotek Builds Biologics Pilot Plant

Published 5/7/2011

Morphotek is building an $80 million bioprocessing plant in Exton, Pa. The 60,000-sf facility will house a biologics plant, cGMP cell culture, cleanrooms, production suites, labs, and offices. The building features corridors with transparent walls for maximum visibility of production processes. Precis Engineering is providing MEP and process engineering and commissioning services for the project. Precis developed the engineering design using Autodesk Revit MEP software, a relatively new Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool with strong three-dimensional coordination abilities. The design team, including Precis and Arcus Design Group Architects, has used the new software to streamline the design and decision-making processes. In addition, Precis has generated three-dimensional animated videos that illustrate how the finished facility will look and how its advanced systems will function. The Morphotek facility has been designed to achieve a minimum of LEED Silver sustainable design certification.
