Modular Lab Planned at Dounreay Nuclear Site

Construction will begin in spring of 2012 on a flexible, modular laboratory at Dounreay Nuclear Site in Thurso, Scotland. Comprising 35 steel-framed modules, the facility will house six laboratories with gloveboxes, 36 fume hoods, and an advanced HEPA-filtered ventilation system. The $11.4 million construction contract was awarded to a consortium including Yorkon, Studsvik, JGC Engineering & Technical Services, and S&B UK. Completion is expected in fall of 2013. The expected lifespan of the facility is 25 years.
