Mote Marine Laboratory will begin construction in January of 2016 on a new research and education facility in Sarasota, Fla. Designed by Hall Architects, the building will accommodate the study of ocean and coastal ecosystems and the impact of climate change. The project will provide technology-rich laboratories, environmental rooms, seawater systems, experimental tanks, classrooms, offices, and conference rooms. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility, which will serve as an international center of excellence in marine science. The general contractor for the project is Willis A. Smith Construction. Occupancy is expected in early 2017.
