Meta broke ground in early 2026 on a next-generation data center in Lebanon, Indiana. Designed to deliver 1 gigawatt of capacity, the 1,500-acre campus will include 13 structures spanning a total of 4 million sf. In addition to administrative, logistics, and warehousing environments, 10 data center facilities will offer the flexibility to accommodate advances in AI while furthering the company's core businesses. Building at this scale supports both goals while enabling technology with higher bandwidth, lower latency, and improved reliability. Engineered for optimal water efficiency, a closed-loop, liquid cooling system will recirculate the same water, consuming zero water for a majority of the year.

Targeting LEED Gold certification, the sustainable development represents an investment of over $10 billion in the data center and the surrounding community. Over the course of the project, Meta will contribute more than $120 million toward critical water infrastructure and improvements to roads, transmission lines, and utility upgrades. The company will pay the full costs for the energy, water, and wastewater services used by the campus, as well as matching 100 percent of the site’s energy use with clean energy and restoring 100 percent of the water consumed to local watersheds. The Deer Creek stream will also be revitalized to improve the ecological health of the wetland corridor by expanding vegetation in the area and creating a better habitat for pollinators.

Turner Construction and Mortenson are serving as contractors for the project, which is expected to create more than 4,000 construction jobs, plus 300 employment positions upon completion. The first phase is expected to come online by early 2028.
