Westfield State University Breaks Ground on Science Center

Westfield State University broke ground on a $33 million science center in September of 2014 in Westfield, Mass. The 54,000-sf academic facility will house laboratories, medical simulation suites, and a technology-rich interdisciplinary classroom. The existing Wilson Hall will also be renovated. The project team includes architect Cambridge Seven Associates and general contractor Walsh Brothers Construction. Completion is expected in August of 2016.

Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan Breaks Ground on Saskatoon Facility

Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan broke ground in September of 2014 on a $236 million facility in Saskatoon. Located on the University of Saskatchewan campus, the 176-bed hospital will provide maternal care, labor and delivery, pediatric surgery, and pediatric outpatient services. Construction will begin in early 2015 with completion expected in 2017.

West Virginia University Children's Hospital Expands in Morgantown

West Virginia University Children's Hospital broke ground in September of 2014 on a $248 million tower in Morgantown. Representing an expansion of Ruby Memorial Hospital, the ten-story, 139-bed project will provide inpatient rooms as well as an emergency department, trauma center, ICU, and NICU. A new Rosenbaum Family House and Child Development Center will also be constructed. Completion is expected by 2016.

Primary Children's Hospital Opens Outpatient Services Building

Primary Children's Hospital will open the 240,000-sf Outpatient Services Building in Salt Lake City in October of 2014. Featuring a 300-ft sky bridge to the existing hospital, the six-story addition will provide 67 new exam rooms, offices for clinicians and faculty members, and a medical laboratory. The LEED Silver facility features automated window shades, motion-activated lighting, and window glazing for reduced heat gain. Primary Children's is the pediatric teaching hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine.

Construction Begins on Ghana Ridge Hospital

The new 465,560-sf Ghana Ridge Hospital is being constructed in Accra. The Government of Ghana selected the design-build team of Perkins+Will and Americaribe to create the 600-bed replacement hospital, which will be the largest medical center in the country. The sustainably designed facility will feature passive cooling, solar water heating, and controlled daylight harvesting. The project will be constructed in two phases, with the first 307,000-sf phase providing approximately 400 beds.
