Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital Opens in Birtinya

The $105 million Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital will open in November of 2013 in Birtinya, Queensland. Providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, the 200-bed hospital will provide six operating rooms, a cardiac catheterization lab, a day surgery unit, ICU, a procedure room, an eight-bed day oncology unit, medical offices, imaging, pathology, and entirely private patient rooms. The facility is located on a shared campus with the $2 billion Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital which is currently under construction.

Cambridge University Hospital Plans Academic Health Center

Cambridge University Hospital is planning to build The Forum on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the United Kingdom. Designed by NBBJ, the $202 million development will include a post-graduate medical school, a 100-bed private hospital, a 198-room hotel, and a 55-seat conference center. The project will be built using general contractor Laing O'Rourke's ‘Design for Manufacture and Assembly’ system of modular construction.

University at Buffalo Breaks Ground on School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences

The University at Buffalo broke ground in October of 2013 on the $375 million School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, the eight-story, 628,000-sf facility will provide active learning environments, surgical and patient care simulation centers, a gross anatomy lab, administrative and departmental offices, and 150,000 sf of flexible, multidisciplinary laboratories.

Montreal University Health Centre Opens Research Institute

Montreal University Health Centre (Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal) opened its $470 million biomedical research institute in October of 2013. The project was delivered as a public-private partnership (PPP) in collaboration with Pomerleau Real Estate and construction manager Verrault. The building provides advanced laboratories for 160 research teams, a simulation training center, a cyclotron, and space for inpatient clinical trials. Occupancy is expected in January of 2014.

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Opens in Camden

The $100 million MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper opened in October of 2013 in Camden, N.J. The four-story, 103,050-sf comprehensive cancer facility represents a partnership of the Cooper University Health Care and University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Supporting multidisciplinary, team-based patient care, the project provides examination and procedure rooms, conference areas, a healing garden, and instructional and administrative space for the School of Radiation Therapy.
