Geisinger Partners with Opmed.ai to Optimize Operating Room Management
Geisinger Health System is meeting an increased demand for surgical procedures by partnering with Opmed.ai to unlock the full potential of its operating rooms. Headquartered in Danville, Pa., Geisinger serves over a million people across the state with ten hospital campuses. Representing a pivotal step for the integration of leading-edge AI technologies into medical operations and care, Opmed.ai announced the successful first results of the implementation of its advanced OR management platform in October of 2024.
UK Research and Innovation Opens National Quantum Computing Centre
UK Research and Innovation opened the £93 million National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) in Harwell in October of 2024. Located on the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Campus in Oxfordshire, the 43,055-sf facility features sophisticated dry research environments where multidisciplinary teams can design, build, and operate quantum computers. Available to users from across industry and academia, this purpose-built hub is envisioned as a catalyst for the discovery and the scale-up of commercially viable technologies.
University of Pennsylvania Dedicates Amy Gutmann Hall
The University of Pennsylvania dedicated Amy Gutmann Hall in September of 2024 in Philadelphia. Providing a centralized home for both undergraduate and research programs in data science and artificial intelligence, the $140 million facility collocates shared resources in order to make data analysis tools more accessible to the entire university community. The 116,000-sf structure was designed by Lake Flato and KSS Architects with Research Facilities Design (RFD) as laboratory design consultant.
University of California Transforms Westside Mall into UCLA Research Park
The University of California has selected Flad Architects as executive architect for the UCLA Research Park Master Plan Study, a roadmap for the transformation of the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall in Los Angeles into a nexus for discovery and innovation. Leasable lab and office environments will enable industry, academic, and government partners to benefit from collocation with two multidisciplinary research centers.
Texas State University Builds STEM Facility
Texas State University will begin construction in August of 2024 on the $140 million STEM Classroom Building in San Marcos. Designed by Ayers Saint Gross and PGAL, the eight-story, 168,000-gsf facility will house the departments of mathematics and computer science, as well as providing instructional venues, class labs, departmental offices, and research labs for several other academic disciplines.
