University of Wyoming Breaks Ground on High Bay Research Facility

The University of Wyoming broke ground in March of 2015 on the $53.5 million High Bay Research Facility in Laramie. Supporting the development of advanced oil and gas reservoir technologies, the 90,000-sf project will provide flexible, large-scale research space as well as offices, conference rooms, and conventional laboratories. The facility will house the Center of Innovation for Flow in Porous Media, the Improved Recovery Laboratory, the Geomechanical/Petrology Laboratory, and the Structures Research Laboratory.

Reckitt Benckiser Plans Global Centre for Scientific Excellence

Reckitt Benckiser (RB) will begin building the $155 million Global Centre for Scientific Excellence in spring of 2016. Located in Hull in the United Kingdom, the 140,000-sf project will provide R&D labs and testing suites for healthcare product development. An adjacent energy center utilizing sustainable technologies will also be constructed.

NASA Ames Research Center Plans Life Biosciences Laboratory

Nasa Ames Research Center is planning to construct a life biosciences laboratory in Moffett Field, Calif. The two-story, 40,000-sf facility will provide 19,000 sf of BSL-2 wet labs and support and 21,000 sf of office and conference space. With a project cost of up to $60 million, the fumehood-rich building will include procedure rooms, a radiation lab, environmental rooms, and a tissue culture suite. LEED Silver or Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the laboratory.

National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases Builds Viral Diagnostic and Research Laboratory

The National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases is planning to build a $2.5 million viral diagnostic and research laboratory (VDRL) in Kolkata. Sited on a 10,000-sf area of land, the BSL-3 facility will support the detection of emerging infectious diseases as well as accommodating research on virology and immunology. The project is one of 10 regional laboratories that will be constructed in India to ensure rapid response to viral outbreaks and epidemics.

Oregon State University Builds School of Chemical, Biological and Ecological Engineering

Oregon State University will begin construction in March of 2015 on a $40 million facility for the School of Chemical, Biological and Ecological Engineering. The three-story, 58,000-sf Johnson Hall will provide interdisciplinary laboratories for collaborative research, faculty offices, classrooms, and a center for engineering student recruitment and retention. The project architect is SRG Partnership with Research Facilities Design (RFD) as laboratory programming and design consultant.
