Ohio State University Medical Center Dedicates Cancer Hospital and Research Institute

Ohio State University Medical Center dedicated the $1 billion James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus in November of 2014. Designed for the delivery of personalized, genomics-based therapies, the 21-story tower features biomedical labs integrated into inpatient floors to provide true bench-to-bedside translational research and treatment. The hospital provides 14 technology-rich operating rooms, a 15-bed emergency department, and a radiation oncology center with seven vaults.

Gilead Sciences Breaks Ground on Edmonton Lab

Gilead Sciences broke ground in October of 2014 on a $50 million laboratory building in Edmonton, Alberta. Designed by Manasc Isaac Architects, the 44,000-sf facility will accommodate 80 additional employees engaged in pharmaceutical research, development, and production. The construction manager for the project is Graham Group and completion is expected in spring of 2016.

Thermo Fisher Dedicates Diagnostics Center of Excellence

Thermo Fisher Scientific dedicated the $85 million Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence in October of 2014 in Fremont, Calif. The 350,000-sf R&D facility will support the creation and production of advanced diagnostic testing and quality control products. Housing 500 employees, the sustainably designed center features a sophisticated HVAC system and low-flow water fixtures.

University of Liverpool Constructs Materials Innovation Factory

The University of Liverpool will begin construction in November of 2014 on the Materials Innovation Factory in the United Kingdom. Developed in partnership with Unilever, the four-story, 125,000-sf building will provide materials science research labs with a total of 126 fume hoods. The project team includes architect Fairhursts Design Group, civil and structural engineer Curtins, building services engineer White Young Green, and cost consultant Turner & Townsend.

Novo Nordisk Builds Diabetes Research Facility

Novo Nordisk began construction in October of 2014 on a $127 million biomedical research facility in Måløv, Denmark, to support the development of treatments for diabetes. Housing 350 employees, the three-story, 177,600-sf project will be built as two laboratory wings connected by a central structure housing offices and an auditorium. Occupancy is expected in early 2016.
